Rangers at .500 record after winning weekend

It was a big weekend for the Kitchener Rangers, with their first point of the season Friday night, first win of the season Saturday night, and now first home game win of the season Sunday night.

The 3-2 victory against Guelph Sunday, came with a powerplay goal in the third, and a nerve wrecking 5-on-3 penalty kill in the last few minutes of the game.

570’s Colour Commentator Paul Fixter says it was a weekend, many fans were hoping to see after a rough 0-2 start to the season.

“They got five of six points, they get back to .500 in the league standings, and that’s really impressive because it’s not easy to get points in this league. But when you get five out of six against a very good hockey club Friday night (Flint), a very good hockey club in Guelph and a tough place to play in Owen sound; that’s impressive.”

Those five points come from an overtime loss to Flint on Friday, a win in Owen Sound Saturday, and Sunday night’s win against Guelph.

“It was a tough second period, had a great third period, out-shot the Guelph storm 13-5 in their third game in three nights, and got rewarded with the ‘W’, that work ethic paid off,” notes Fixter.

Up next, the Rangers start a three-game road trip in Flint on Wednesday, followed by Sault Ste. Marie Friday and Saginaw Saturday.

You can hear all three games live on 570 NewsRadio with Mike Farwell and Paul Fixter on the mic.
