By CityNews Kitchener Staff

A Waterloo man is facing impaired driving charges after he fled from police and crashed his car into the side of a house before it caught fire.

It all played out early Friday morning as officers with the Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) tried to pull over a driver on Fischer-Hallman Road in Kitchener just before 3:30 a.m.

According to police, the driver hit the gas and was able to speed away.

A short time later, officials were called about the same car as it rammed into the side of a home in the Forest Hill Drive area.

Luckily, officers got there in time to remove the driver from the vehicle before it went up in flames.

There were no reported injuries.

A 30-year-old Waterloo man was arrested and faces charges for dangerous operation, flight from a peace officer, and impaired operation of a motor vehicle by alcohol.
