Motorcycle that crashed into Guelph storefront began with an armed robbery

It ended with a motorcycle crashing into a storefront in Guelph, but police say it began with a young man with a knife stealing that bike.
Guelph Police were called around 9:30 Sunday night about an theft of a motorcycle after that bike crashed into a store at a plaza near Suffolk Street West and Yorkshire Street North.
The caller told officers at the scene a man with a knife stole his running motorcycle not far from the plaza.
The suspect was also making threatening comments.
The victim ran after the robber as he took off on the bike, and the suspect eventually stopped at the plaza.
Police say that’s when the person made a mistake with the clutch while revving the engine, and the bike lurched forward, crashing into a storefront and causing significant damage.
The robber was not hurt, and ran away, but police say he later turned himself in.
The 19-year-old man from Guelph was charged with assault with a weapon; possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose; carrying a concealed weapon; theft of a motor vehicle; and mischief over $5,000.
