Region of Waterloo looking to hire CAO position

The Region of Waterloo is looking for a new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).

In a job posting on LinkedIn, the municipality said it is looking for someone to fill the position to help it in a “pivotal moment” in its evolution. The salary for the position ranges from $264,000 to $352,000 a year.

The responsibilities for the job include working closely with regional council, as well as advancing strategic priorities, including plans to address homelessness and overseeing the 4,000 full-time and part-time employees that work for the region.

“As the Region’s most senior administrative leader, the CAO will bring the Growing with Care vision to life, translating Council’s goals into meaningful action that advances the four priorities of the Strategic Plan: Homes for All, Equitable Services and Opportunities, Climate-Aligned Growth, and a Resilient and Future-Ready Organization,” reads the post.

As of now, Mathieu Goetzke is the acting CAO for the region and has held the position since December 2023 after the departure of Bruce Lauckner. He is expected to stay in the role until a new CAO is found.

Requirements for the position include a university degree in public administration or management, previous senior leadership experience, and in-depth knowledge of municipal governance, legislation and public administration principles.

The deadline for job applications is Jan. 5.
