A new Rangers season means the return of 50/50 draws

By Matt Hutcheson

With the Kitchener Rangers kicking off the preseason this weekend, it means the ever-popular 50/50 draws are back.

Organizers with Rangers Reach, the team’s charitable arm, are hoping this will be another record-breaking one. Last year, fans helped raise $1.34 million, pumping hundreds of thousands of dollars back into the community.

Tickets went on sale for the first 50/50 of the year, this morning. The grand prize total is already approaching $1,000 with the draw taking place on Friday, September 27, during the team’s season opener against the Erie Otters.

Season Opener 50/50 tickets

Craig Campbell, Executive Director, Rangers Reach told The Mike Farwell Show this year they’re rolling out something new.

“At some point we’re going to start the option for you to provide your phone number when you buy a ticket in the building. That reduces the chance that a prize goes unclaimed.” He adds, “You don’t really have to check your numbers because if you provide us your phone number and your name, if you’re number is drawn, we can contact you.”

Campbell said they will have ticket sellers at this weekend’s games and Sunday’s Fan Fest, but it won’t be nearly as many as they have during regular season games.

Speaking of the regular season, Campbell said they’re looking to add volunteers and it’s a pretty sweet gig.

“You’ll be able to watch pretty much most of the game and we do some pretty neat swag for them.”

Volunteer Opportunities

Campbell said volunteers also get a food voucher for each game and there is a new incentive program based on the number of games they volunteer.

He added the schedule is totally flexible and the “volunteers have the best time.”
