Local nonprofit recovering from second alleged robbery this year

Not once but twice, a local nonprofit organization is recovering from an alleged break-and-enter.

Retail Therapy KW is a thrift store in the Victoria Street South and Park Street area of Kitchener, which raises money to support survivors of domestic violence.

The store posted security footage and the aftermath of the alleged break-in Sunday night on their Instagram page.

This comes nearly five months after the store was broken into the first time, where over $5,000 worth of electronics, cash, and other goods were reportedly stolen.

In that case, the community rallied together to help the store get back on its feet. The business then changed their storage protocols for better security.

This time around, the owners say no electronics were taken, no one was hurt, but all the jewelry is gone, and the store is completely turned over.

The security footage shows at least one person rummaging through the store in the 8:00 Sunday night. The post notes, it’s believed at least one other person was involved, with the pair allegedly coming twice in the night.

Waterloo Regional Police say they are investigating and tell 570 NewsRadio they are recommending all business owners lock their windows and doors when they leave and have a working security alarm in place.

“An owner of any business is allowed to post their own security footage. We advise anyone who may be thinking about this to consult with the investigating officer to ensure it does not interfere with the investigation,” a police spokesperson added.
