Speed camera outside Baden public school taken down for second time this summer

Someone in Wilmot Township does not like this camera.

A speed camera outside of Sir Adam Beck Public School was found knocked down on Monday. The camera appeared to be taken off its post with the wires still sticking out. While the camera itself did not appear damaged, the sensor below it did.

Waterloo Regional Police say they are investigating, noting the damage happened sometime between 10 p.m. and 11:59 p.m. on Sunday night.

The camera had just been replaced nearly three weeks ago following a previous act of vandalism in July. The same camera has now been knocked down at least five times, and targeted multiple times over the last year.

In July 2023, the camera had its sensor covered in spray paint, followed by it being cut down two months later. Not even two weeks after that, it was put back up, and had spray paint over it again before being cut down for a second time in December 2023.

The speed limit on that road is normally 60 km/h, but is reduced to 40km/h between 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. between September and June.
