Waterloo Regional Police initiated a high-risk arrest in Kitchener on Wednesday to capture a man believed to be in possession of a firearm.

According to officials, the Drug and Firearm Unit, with help from the Emergency Response Team, located the 30-year-old Kitchener man in the area of Traynor Avenue and Wilson Avenue around 5 p.m.

Officers believed the man had a firearm, and performed a high-risk arrest to ensure public safety. He was found to have a replica firearm, controlled substances and cash.

He was charged with five counts of breaching a court order, possession for the purpose of trafficking a controlled substance and weapons-related charges.

The man was held in custody for a bail hearing.

A video of the arrest was later posted to Reddit, and it received nearly 200 comments.
