Community drug alert issued for four suspected overdose related deaths

The Waterloo Region Integrated Drug Strategy (WRIDS) has issued a community drug alert for four suspected overdose or poisoning-related deaths in 41 reported cases.

WRIDS said these deaths happened between June 28 to July 4.

The agency said the Kitchener Consumption Treatment and Services (CTS) Drug Checking Program has detected samples of Flubromazolam or ‘Liquid Xanax”’, Xylazine, Fentanyl Analogues, Medetomidine/dexmedetomidine and Bromazolam.

“The unregulated drug supply is unpredictable and unexpected reactions may occur,” a statement reads.

The agency said a connection between the substances identified and the reported drug overdoses/poisonings is not known at this time but, details on the substances are included in there community alert, which can be found here.

Drug users are being urged to take precautions like never using alone, always carrying naloxone, and visiting the CTS on Duke Street.
