You can’t spell celebration without ION.
Grand River Transit (GRT) is getting ready to mark five years since the launch of ION service in K-W.
The LRT’s fifth birthday means there will be free transit on the weekend of June 22.
It won’t just apply to ION trains either, as you won’t have to pay a fare to ride GRT buses or MobilityPlus services.
GRT is also planning celebratory events for June 22 at Fairway Station, Frederick Station, Ainslie Street Terminal and Waterloo Public Square.
The parties will be happening between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and will feature live entertainment, activities like face painting, and transit giveaways.
ION trains first started rolling in the region on June 21, 2019, and have carried more than 19 million passengers since then, according to GRT.
