Food Bank of Waterloo Region hosting sixth annual summer food drive

Help fill bellies and warm hearts at The Food Bank of Waterloo Region’s sixth annual summer campaign.

‘Full Bellies, Happy Hearts’ kicks off on Saturday and has set a goal of raising 1.5 million meals for kids and families experiencing food insecurity.

Since 2017, the campaign has brought in more than seven million meals.

“Over 20,500 children in Waterloo region live in food-insecure households,” said Kim Wilhelm, CEO of The Food Bank of Waterloo Region in a press release. “During the school year, many of these kids rely on school nutrition programs for meals. But when school ends for the summer, these programs stop too, leaving many kids without access to the food they need.”

You can donate today at their food drive at grocery locations around the region, including Zehrs, Your Independent Grocer, Sobeys, and FreshCo from noon until 4 p.m.

According to the Food Bank, their most needed items are apple sauce, fruit cups, granola bars, juice boxes, peanut butter, and pudding cups.

You can give online any time through the Full Bellies Facebook page.
