Police raid illegal magic mushroom dispensary in Cambridge, again

By Erin Anderson

There’s been another raid at a local magic mushroom dispensary. The latest happened Thursday at the FunGuyz store on King Street East in Cambridge.

The illegal business first opened back in November and the chain then set up another location on Victoria Street in Kitchener this past March.

Last week, Waterloo Region’s police chief Mark Crowell told CityNews 570 there had been 10 search warrants carried out at the two dispensaries.

The most recent raid raises the total to 11.

Investigators with the Waterloo Regional Police Service once again searched the Cambridge location and seized a large supply of psilocybin products, along with cash.

A 19-year-old from Cambridge was arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Police said psilocybin remains illegal in Canada and the dispensaries are operating unlawfully

A spokesperson with FunGuyz spoke to CityNews 570 anonymously last year, saying they fully expect continued police enforcement and believe current drug restrictions in place in Canada are “grossly unjustified.”

Both FunGuyz stores have continuously reopened and been restocked after each raid, sometimes within a matter of days.
