Researchers from the University of Waterloo are spearheading the development of the batteries that will power the electric vehicles of tomorrow.
Linda Nazar and Michael Pope of UW are leading the Ontario Battery and Electrochemistry Research Centre (OBEC), Canada’s newest facility looking into pushing forward the next generation of electric-powered vehicles.
Researchers are looking to make batteries more sustainable, less expensive, safer, and longer lasting.
OBEC is funded from a $5 million investment made possible by the Canada Foundation for Innovation and Waterloo.
the OBEC will also help train Waterloo’s undergraduate and graduate students as well as post-doctoral fellows to advance their expertise in electrochemistry.
