Acorn Canada hosting rally in Waterloo over grocery price gouging

As grocery prices continue to rise out of reach for many Canadians, rallies are being held this afternoon to challenge the increase.

Independent organization Acorn Canada is hosting demonstrations at nine cities across the country, including in Waterloo. They are looking to quote, “demand the biggest grocery chains stop price gouging hardworking canadians.” end quote.

In a release, Acorn said Canadians are already struggling with the continuing affordability crisis while grocery chains make record profits.

The group is calling on the federal government to tax excessive profits made by big grocery chains and to place a cap on the price of essential food items.

The Sobeys at 94 Bridgeport Road East will host Waterloo’s rally, beginning at 1 p.m.
