Woman with machete chases man in mall parking lot

It was already a bit chaotic at shopping malls over the weekend with the final countdown underway until Christmas, but the hustle and bustle nearly turned violent in Kitchener as police received reports of a woman chasing a man with a machete.

Police were called to Fairview Park Mall on Sunday afternoon due to a road rage incident in the parking lot.

The altercation apparently started as a woman was trying to leave the mall and she got into an argument with another driver.

According to Waterloo Regional Police, the woman then grabbed a large machete, exited her car, and chased the other driver.

The woman also reportedly left her car in ‘drive’ when she got out, so her vehicle slammed into the side of the mall.

A male who was with the woman ended up taking the weapon away from her, and he suffered minor injuries as a result.

The male driver who was being chased was not hurt.

In addition to the 42-year-old Waterloo woman being charged with assault and weapons offences, she was also seriously hurt when she initially grabbed the machete and had to be taken to an out-of-region hospital for treatment.

Police continue to investigate the incident and anyone with further information is asked to come forward.
