February snow puts winter snowfall total to 191 cm in Waterloo Region

No surprise: February was a snowy month.

The E.D. Soulis Memorial Weather Station at the University of Waterloo is out with its monthly weather recap.

Nearly 78 cm of snow fell over the last four weeks in Waterloo Region.

That is more than double the average amount of snow the region typically sees in February, which is 30.3 cm.

This winter so far 191 cm of snow has fallen on Waterloo Region, the most since 2008.

For February alone, no snowfall records were broken. The weather station still has 2013 as the snowiest February, with 93 cm of snow falling in that year.

Temperature rise with that tease of spring during the last half of February kept daytimes highs around average.

The coldest it got, not including wind chill, was -20 C and the warmest was up to nearly 8 C.

When breaking down temperatures for meteorological winter, which is just December, January, and February, 2024-25 marked the coldest season over the past ten years.

The past three months were, on average, one degree below average.
