Advanced voting has been open for a week, however, the official voting day for the Cambridge Ward 1 byelection is Nov. 13.
There will be four available locations between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. if individuals choose to vote in person. These locations are Allan Reuter Centre, Langs Community Health Centre, W.G. Johnson Centre and Cambridge City Hall.
Danielle Manton is the city clerk for the city of Cambridge and said that voters should bring a government issued identification with them.
“Typically people bring a drivers license, an Ontario photo card. It could be an insurance statement, insurance policy or it could even be a utility bill with a photo identification as well. In addition to something with their address on it,” she stated.
For those who wish to vote online Manton further said, “Those looking to vote on the internet, they should look at their voter information notice that they would’ve received in the mail a couple of weeks ago. That will give them any instructions for voting online including their personal PIN that they will use to cast their vote.”
The City of Cambridge had originally discussed planning to display posters at voting stations which identified candidates and information about them. Ultimately, the city decided to not continue with this idea.
“We didn’t want it to optically come across like we were having promotional material in our polls, which is prohibited. For that reason, we decided not to move forward with it,” Manton said.
After voting is completed the official election results will be released the following day with the new Ward 1 elected official being sworn in on Nov. 28.
“Come informed, come with your identification, it will be a very easy process. You will be in and out within ten minutes and we really encourage everyone to come out and have a say for Ward 1,” said Manton.
