Crews with Cambridge Fire and regional police continue to investigate after a residential fire in Cambridge.

Waterloo Regional Police notified the public of that fire in a townhouse on Langs Drive just after 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

That blaze resulted in the closure of Langs Drive between Concession Road and Industrial Road. The road reopened before noon.

Speaking to CityNews, local resident Lisa said she was alerted to the fire by another individual repeatedly sounding the horn of their truck to alert the neighbourhood.

She said by the time she left her adjoining unit, she spotted pillars of black smoke and flames “ten feet high.”

“One guy in the unit, he kept going in and out of the unit. At the last time he went to come out, there was an explosion,” recalled Lisa.

“He flew over the railing and landed onto the grass… so the ambulance took him away.”

Chief Fire Prevention Officer with the Cambridge Fire Department, Eric Yates, later confirmed that one individual sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital for observation.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation but, the damage is estimated to be $300,000.

A police spokesperson said at this time, the fire is not considered suspicious.
