Heat warning issued in Waterloo Region
It’s been an extra spicy week weather wise, but there is a light at the end of tunnel.
This week, the region has been and will continue to look at temperatures averaging above 30 Degrees Celsius (C). The humidex will also be sitting at the early to mid thirties for the rest of the work week.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for the region, stating that hot and humid conditions are expected Wednesday through Friday.

Gerald Cheng, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, explained that the increase in the humidex is all thanks to our neighbours below.
“We are looking at humidity this week because of a southwest flow from the U.S, and that’s making that humidity build back in.” Cheng commented.
According to Environment Canada, temperatures in the region are expected to sit at a high of 30 C on Wednesday and Thursday, and Friday is expected to be extremely hot with humidex levels potentially reaching 40.
Cheng explained that the heat in the region will likely let up by Saturday due to a change of air mass.
“After that, we’ll be looking at temperatures around normal, and the normal high for this year should be around 26 C.” Cheng stated.

Cheng added that despite the rise in heat, Environment Canada is not seeing a huge concern when it comes to air quality.
During times of extreme heat, the organization recommends drinking plenty of water, staying in cool buildings, bathing in cool water and minimizing time in the sun between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Region of Waterloo Public Health are also suggesting wearing loose clothing.
