Weekend sees back-to-back motorcycle collisions

By Mark Douglas

It’s been a dangerous weekend for motorcyclists in the Region, including a fail-to-remain crash in Waterloo.

Regional Police say a rider was seriously injured when he had to swerve to avoid a vehicle, passing on a curve on University Avenue, Sunday afternoon.

It happened just before 1 p.m., on the forested stretch of University between Erb Street West and Fischer-Hallman Road.

Police say the driver of the motorcycle is a 57-year old man from Gravenhurst.

He was treated in a local hospital.

They also allege the driver of the passing vehicle, a dark coloured Mercedes Benz, fled the scene.

Police describe the driver as in his 20s, with some facial hair stubble.

That stretch of University Avenue was closed for several hours for the investigation.

Before this incident, a motorcyclist from Kitchener was seriously hurt in a Saturday evening crash in North Dumfries.

It happened near Spragues Road and Greenfield Road.

The motorcycle driver was the only person hurt.

Police are still investigating and make no mention of charges.

Police ask witnesses to either crash, and especially anyone with dash cam footage, to call the WRPS Traffic Services Unit at 519-570-9777, extension 8856, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or online.
