What’s open/closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day in Waterloo Region

While everyone may be gathering with family and friends for Christmas Day and Boxing Day in and around the region, several services will not be operating or will have reduce hours on both of those days.

Here’s what’s opened and closed for Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Region of Waterloo

The following services will be closed on both Christmas Day and Boxing Day:

• All administration buildings
• Home Child Care
• Public Health Clinics
• Regional libraries
• Regional museums
• Seniors’ Services

The Region of Waterloo Airport operations will not be affected, but all the administration offices are closed.

Warming Centres

Warming centres will be open on Christmas Day and Boxing Day during the day at the following locations:

150 Main Street in Cambridge from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

150 Frederick Street in Kitchener from 10:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Overnight warming centres will also be operating at 298 Lawrence Ave. in Kitchener and 6 Cambridge St. in Cambridge.

Garbage collection

Garbage collection is cancelled for Christmas Day.

Anyone who gets collection on Thursday will have their garbage picked up on Friday (Boxing Day). Friday’s garbage collection is moved to Saturday.

Transfer stations in both Cambridge and Waterloo will be closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day for residential drop-off.

City of Waterloo

All arenas, sports centres, government buildings and the outside skating rink at Waterloo Public Square are closed. A full list can be found here.

City of Cambridge

All government building, as well as community centres and sports arenas are closed. A full list can be found here.

City of Kitchener

Kitchener City Hall will be open on Christmas and Boxing Day from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. but no in-person services will be available.

All community centres and pools are closed.

The Kitchener Market is closed Christmas Day, but open on Boxing Day from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Carl Zehr Square skating rink will be open for a Christmas Day skate from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Beer Stores and LCBO

All Beer Store and LCBO locations are closed on Christmas Day. Certain LCBO locations will be open on Boxing Day.

The following Beer Store locations are open on Boxing Day:

Cambridge

• 200 Franklin Blvd. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• 150 Holiday Inn Dr. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Drive thru only)

Guelph

• 111 Silvercreek Pkwy. N. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• 710 Woolwich St. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Kitchener

• 250 Bleams Rd. – 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• 875 Highland Rd. W., Unit 80 – 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• 1120 Victoria St. N. – 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Waterloo

• 70 Weber St. N. – 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.(Drive thru only)
• 624 King St. N. – 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Grand River Transit

Grand River Transit will be operating on winter holiday services hours between Dec. 22 and Jan. 4.

MobilityPLUS service will continue to run, but all subscription trips on Christmas Day are cancelled.

All Grand River Customer Service Centres are closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
