Bail hearing for man accused in UW stabbings pushed back

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

The man that has been charged in a triple stabbing at the University of Waterloo appeared in a Kitchener courtroom Tuesday morning.

24-year-old Geovanny Villalba-Aleman made the brief court appearance by video.

The accused spoke for himself and asked for the bail hearing to be put over.

The judge put his case over to July 25.

Villalba-Aleman was recently graduated from the university as an international student. He faces three counts of aggravated assault, four counts of assault with a weapon and two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Police allege he walked into a gender studies class on June 28 and stabbed a professor and two students, who are now recovering.

Investigators allege the stabbing was a planned and targeted attack motivated by hate related to gender expression and gender identity.
