Two men from Waterloo Region charged with assault

Two men from Waterloo Region were charged with multiple counts of assault over the Canada Day long weekend on Roberts Island.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a 911 call from a resident in the Georgian Bay Township on Sunday morning. The assault investigation involved a baseball bat.

“There’s no threat to public safety,” OPP officer David Hobson told CityNews. “These were neighbours. Unfortunately matters developed into an assault.”

Twenty-two-year-old Garrett Richard Detlor of Kitchener was charged with three counts of assault with a weapon and uttering threats, while 20-year-old Liam Detlor of Cambridge received two counts of assault with a weapon.

“It would appear that several persons were struck with non-serious injuries,” said Hobson.

Both of the accused received notices under the Trespass to Property Act and have been released from custody to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on Aug. 31.
