Downtown Kitchener to celebrate Canada Day with concert and fireworks

Those looking for a Canada Day celebration on Saturday have to look no further than Downtown Kitchener.

The City of Kitchener is hosting a free concert and fireworks show at the Carl Zehr Square in front of City Hall from 6 to 11 p.m.

The concert features Steven Lee Olsen, Robyn Ottolini, Owen Riegling and Amanda Kind.

Another option for live entertainment will take place at Gaukel Block from 4 to 7 p.m.

Parking for the concert and fireworks show in Carl Zehr Square can be found in the City Hall parking garage, in addition to other parking lots in Downtown Kitchener. Bike parking is also available.

The City describes Canada Day as “one of the biggest events of the summer, with lots of family-friendly fun,” while also acknowledging the importance of using the day as a time for education.

“Canada Day is an opportunity to learn about Indigenous culture, and the deep, enduring, and positive impact First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples have on culture, community, environmental protection and more,” the City website says. “We encourage you to thoughtfully examine what it means to be Canadian and understand our country’s Indigenous roots and the racism that still exists today.”

Resources can be found on the City’s Canada Day event page.
