Kitchener watch party for Jamal Murray and Denver Nuggets

Kitchener will gather at Stanley Park Community Centre for a watch party on Wednesday to cheer on Jamal Murray in the NBA finals.

The Denver Nuggets point guard from Kitchener takes on the Miami Heat in game three to attempt a lead in the series, which is currently tied at 1-1.

“We’re still very confident as the supporters of #NuggetsNationNorth that Denver’s going to take it all the way,” Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic told CityNews.

Stanley Park Community Centre was the chosen location for Wednesday’s watch party as it used to be where Murray practiced.

An outdoor screen will be set up for the 8:30 p.m. tipoff.

“I think it really provides a source of inspiration for young people who have some talent to recognize if you put that talent to work, if you work hard, have a little bit of luck and couple that with your passion, you too can see your dreams come true,” said Vrbanovic.

In the NBA finals so far, the former Grand River Renegade put up 26 points, 10 assists and six rebounds in game one and 18 points and 10 assists in game two.

The free watch party will feature food trucks, bouncy castles and a giveaway of a basketball signed by Murray. Local musician Matt Weidinger and the Tonewheels are scheduled to play live music.

Members of the KW Titans plan to be in attendance, as well as their mascot, Titus the Titan.

“It’s an opportunity for us to come together and celebrate our community, to celebrate young talent in our community who’s worked hard and reached the pinnacle of sports success,” said Vrbanovic.
