Police make arrest after hate-motivated assault in Waterloo

Police continue to investigate what’s believed to be a hate-motivated incident in Waterloo that saw a victim assaulted and followed home.

According to Waterloo Regional Police, it happened in the Pinerow Crescent area around 12:40 a.m. on Wednesday.

The victim was allegedly approached by a stranger, who assaulted them and made xenophobic comments. The suspect then reportedly followed the victim home and caused property damage. Police did not report any injuries.

Officers arrived to the scene and arrested a 29-year-old man. He has been charged with assault and mischief.

Police are asking anyone with information on the incident to contact them or Crime Stoppers, and note the attack is suspected to be hate-motivated.
