RedHawks punch ticket to second round, Warriors await

By CambridgeToday Staff

The Cambridge RedHawks exploded for seven goals and goaltender Ben Edwards made 29 saves in a 7-2 victory over the Listowel Cyclones in Game 5 of their first round best-of-seven Midwestern Conference playoff series Tuesday night.

With the win, the RedHawks won the series 4-1 and will now meet the Stratford Warriors in the second round.

Forward Kyle Maloney led the way offensively with a goal and four assists. Defenceman Jack Robertson potted a pair and added an assist, and forward Michael McKnight had three helpers.

The game was originally scheduled to be played Saturday night but was suspended late in the first period due to an injury to a Cyclones player.

Stratford, who finished second in the conference with a 38-11-1-0 record, advanced thanks to a four-game sweep of the Caledon Bombers. They outscored the Bombers 24-7 in the series.

The Warriors won the regular season series with the RedHawks 4-3, but Cambridge won their last meeting 3-1 back on Feb. 18.

Game 1 goes Friday, March 17 at William Allman Memorial Arena in Stratford at 7:30 p.m.
