Kitchener man serving sentence for second degree murder dies in prison

A convicted killer from Kitchener who was serving a sentence for second degree murder has died at Warkworth Institution.

According to Correctional Service Canada, Eric Amaral died Monday. 

They said in a release, at the time of death, Amaral was serving an indeterminate sentence, which started Apr. 6, 2017. 

The offences stem from a fatal crossbow shooting in October 2015 in Kitchener that killed 60-year-old, Michael Gibbon. 

His sentence included offences such as second degree murder, assault causing bodily harm, and pointing a firearm. 

Next of kin, police and the coroner have all been notified and Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances around Amaral's death which is procedure in these instances.
