Man charged with first degree murder after Kitchener stabbing (update)

A Kitchener man has been charged with first degree murder in connection with a stabbing in the city.

Police were called to a residence on Cayley Court, which is located in the Rockway area of the city, around 10 p.m. Tuesday.

When officers arrived, they found three female victims with injuries. They were transported to hospital where a 41-year-old woman was pronounced dead. Two other victims, a seven-year-old and 51-year-old, remain in hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

In addition to the first degree murder charge, a 30-year-old man also faces two counts of attempted murder.

The accused is being held in custody for a bail hearing, scheduled for Wednesday.

There is no concern for public safety as investigators believe the suspect and victims are known to each other.

Police will also have an increased presence in the area and will be canvassing the neighbourhood as part of the investigation.
