Elora Gorge set to reopen Friday after severe storm (update)

Clean up is underway Thursday after the storm that swept through southern Ontario Wednesday night.
Those living in Kitchener-Waterloo were not hit too bad with the Region of Waterloo International Airport recording only 11 mm of rain. Some areas surrounding Waterloo Region got over 50 mm.
Tornado warnings were briefly issued across our coverage area including in Waterloo Region, northern and southern Wellington Counties, as well as Huron and Perth Counties.
Damage from strong winds did occur in the Fergus and Elora areas and had the Grand River Conservation Authority close the Elora Gorge Conservation Area Thursday for safety reasons.
Officials say significant tree damage occurred during the storm.
The Elora Gorge Conservation Area is set to reopen Friday morning at 8 a.m. for day-use, tubing, and camping. However, some areas that were heavily impacted by the weather will stay closed through the weekend.
Multiple trees down in and around Elora are the cause of the interruption in Elora. Crews are still assessing and an update will be provided as soon as possible. Please stay off the roads to allow crews to safely access damaged areas.
