Calling the milestone an “unfathomable accomplishment,” the Farwell4Hire fundraising campaign in support of cystic fibrosis research has surpassed its goal of $1 million dollars raised since its inception.
The achievement was made possible through generous community donations, with $186-thousand dollars raised this May — far above the target goal of $140,000 set at the beginning of the campaign. While previously scheduled to run until May 31, a surge in momentum saw the end date for the 2022 campaign moved to June 5.
Posting on social media, City's Mike Farwell offered his thanks to the “beautiful” Waterloo Region, as he recounted the steps that made the significant milestone in cystic fibrosis awareness and research possible.
8 years. 9 campaigns. About 300 days. More than 1000 odd jobs. And with more than $186,000 raised this May, ONE COMMUNITY has raised more than ONE MILLION DOLLARS in the fight against #cysticfibrosis. You're a beautiful place, Waterloo Region. #Farwell4Hire #curecf pic.twitter.com/NoytSCsGKu

Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic has since offered his congratulations as well, calling the continuing effort of the campaign “nothing short of amazing and inspiring.”
The Farwell4Hire campaign began back in 2014, as Mike Farwell created the fundraising campaign to raise awareness about cystic fibrosis, performing tasks in the community in exchange for donations to eventually “make CF history.”
