Kitchener, Cambridge make top 10 cities with most swimming pool building permits 2021

It seems Kitchener and Cambridge residents are building more swimming pools than residents in most other Ontario cities.
In 2021, the two municipalities were among the top 10 cities with the most swimming pool building permits given out: Kitchener with 178 and Cambridge with 153. Ottawa had the most, with 1,372.
Swimming pools continued to be a popular home improvement in 2021, according to MPAC’s analysis of Ontario home building permits. There were a total of 9,059 swimming pool permits issued in 2021 — an increase of 33 per cent from the previous year.
“The pandemic likely continued to put a focus on the home,” said Carmelo Lipsi, MPAC Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer, in a news release.
“Whether it’s because people were staying close to home due to restrictions, or were uncertain about future travel, many property owners invested in a pool as part of creating a backyard oasis to enjoy with family or friends.”
