With temperatures sitting at seven degrees or above for the next week, CAA experts say now is the perfect time to swap out your winter tires.
But, they are recommending having them done professionally.
“When you put those wheels on, the tires can separate from the vehicle if not done correctly,” said Kaitlynn Furse, director of communications for CAA South Central Ontario.
Besides switching your tires, the service recommends getting a complete vehicle maintenance check. Furse noted that 80 to 90 per cent of their calls are often related to vehicle maintenance. These are things motorists can check themselves.
“We suggest looking at your fluids, topping up your windshield washer fluid, topping up your oil. Replacing your wipers if they are cracked or damaged. Checking your lights … and testing your battery.”
Furse noted it is also essential to get winter tires because they have something in them called silica which helps the tires better grip the road.
“When we are in snowy and or difficult driving conditions, you want to be focused on the roads and your driving behavior. Winter tires help to increase that control and moving ability.”
