Province funding new MRI services at both Kitchener hospitals

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

The province is funding new MRI services at Grand River Hospital and St. Mary's General Hospital in Kitchener.

The announcement was made Tuesday morning by Mike Harris, MPP for Kitchener-Conestoga.

The provincial government says the new services will help address wait times for diagnostic imaging in Waterloo Region.

According to statistics provided by the province, demand for MRI services has increased an average of four per cent annually.

“This investment brings the number of hospital-based MRIs serving the people of Waterloo Region from 1 to 3 and better aligns our community with MRI access available in other communities across the province,” Ron Gagnon, president and CEO of Grand River Hospital, said in a news release.
