Maxwell's Concerts and Events reopened Thursday night for the first time, in a long time. 20 months to be exact.
Waterloo's popular live music venue shut its doors in March, 2020, due to the COVID19 pandemic.
“It's been a long road,” said Paul Maxwell, President of Maxwell's Concerts and Events. “We're excited.”
Last night, Ruby Waters hit the stage on night one of the reopening. Waters is an Indy Rock artist, of Metis heritage, from Shelburne, Ontario.
“It's a general level of a rebirth happening in the music scene right now,” added Maxwell. “The artists coming through the room are showing nothing, but smiles.”
Since provincial COVID19 protocols and mandates were constantly changing, including capacity limits, Maxwell said he decided to wait a little longer to open up his venue.
“A lot of the touring bands and artists weren't interested or available, or financially couldn't make sense,” he said. “That's why we chose to remain quiet, and work toward the eventually 100 per cent capacity we're at now.”
Maxwell also touched on some of the COVID-19 measures in place. He said his venue is adhering to the protocols put in place by the province, and will adjust if things change or evolve.
