Backyard chickens one step closer to reality in Waterloo

Backyard chickens in Waterloo are getting closer to becoming the norm in the city.
Waterloo City Council voted in favour of a motion Monday night to have staff amend the bylaw and allow backyard hens, though it comes with its own set of rules.
There would be a maximum of four hens, no roosters, no sale of eggs or home slaughter permitted.
Council voted unanimously to move forward with the staff recommendation.
Approval of the amended bylaw is set for May 31.
