Our Region’s public health unit has classified the two previously confirmed COVID-19 cases at Wilfrid Laurier University’s Clara Conrad Hall Residence as an outbreak at the Waterloo campus.
These two separate cases were reported on March 12 and March 18 through Wilfrid Laurier University’s COVID-19 case reporting process.
According to a release from the university, the two individuals are now in self-isolation and will be monitored by public health. Furthermore, Wilfrid Laurier University will be taking direction regarding the management of this outbreak at their Waterloo campus from public health – including contact tracing and, if necessary, isolation of individuals.
In that same release, Wilfrid Laurier University has emphasized that the safety of students, staff and faculty remains a priority, with stringent protocols and safety measures already in place aimed at preventing the spread of COVID-19.
“The Laurier community can also rest assured the university has had protocols for sanitizing and cleaning campus areas in place since the beginning of the pandemic.”
The identities of the individuals who have tested positive are protected by privacy legislation and will not be shared.
