Watermain repairs at King and Fountain in Cambridge to continue through Sunday

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

Watermain repairs at one of the busiest intersections in Cambridge will now continue until Sunday.

As of early Friday morning, city work crews were at King Street and Fountain Street dealing with a watermain break from earlier in the week.

A statement from the city said the break has been isolated, and no disruption to water service is expected for residents.

Work began around 1 a.m., Friday with jack hammers and heavy machinery digging the roadway out in the middle of the intersection, to get to the problem spot.

The city initially expected the intersection to fully reopen by Friday afternoon but noted it is a difficult repair which is taking longer than expected.

Now, the repairs are expected to be completed on Sunday.

Until then, traffic interruptions include:

  • Fountain Street southbound: no left turn onto King Street
  • Fountain Street northbound: no through traffic onto King Street
  • King Street: no left turn onto Fountain Street

Drivers are asked to use King Street, Eagle Street, and Speedsville Road to detour around the restrictions.
