MEC Kitchener set to reopen

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

Mountain Equipment Co-Op is getting ready to welcome customers back to its location in Kitchener.

In a statement to 570 NEWS, a spokesperson for the company says that it looks forward to welcoming back its Kitchener community November 23.

The company temporarily laid off about 40 employees at the start of the pandemic and the Manitou storefront has been closed since March.

MEC was sold to a private U.S. investment firm in September which left stores in Canada in limbo.

Kitchener has about 58,000 members locally.

“We continue to back the outdoor community in Canada through partnerships, donations and the energy of our teams. We look forward to sharing our 2021 plans with you soon!” said a spokesperson for MEC.

The Kitchener store first opened in 2017.
