Another local pharmacy offering COVID testing (update)

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

Testing for COVID-19 will be available at more Ontario pharmacies as of this week.

During his daily news conference on Wednesday afternoon, Premier Doug Ford announced 50 more pharmacies will offer the service.

He mentioned pharmacies in Kitchener and Cambridge, but no specifics were offered at the time.

On Friday morning, Shoppers Drug Mart confirmed its 50 Weber Street location in Waterloo is now providing the service for high priority, asymptomatic Ontarians.

Three Shoppers Drug Mart locations in Waterloo Region have already been offering testing since the end of September:

  • 235 Ira Needles, Kitchener
  • 550 King St N, Waterloo (Conestoga Mall)
  • 1500 King St E, Cambridge

Those looking for a test are reminded they must book an appointment and be asymptomatic.

A statement from Loblaw Public Relations said, “These tests are done by appointment only, and only after the patient has been pre-screened to determine that they meet this criteria – specifically, that they do not have symptoms, have not had close contact with anyone who has or is presumed to have COVID-19, have not travelled outside of Canada in the past 14 days and really have no reason to believe they may have COVID-19.”

You must also meet the following criteria established by the province:

  • Residents or workers in long-term care home
  • Visitors to a long-term care home
  • Residents or workers in homeless shelter
  • International students that have passed their 14-day quarantine period
  • Farm workers
  • Individuals who require a COVID-19 test for international travel clearance
  • Self-Identified Indigenous

Currently, no Rexall pharmacies in Waterloo Region are offering asymptomatic COVID-19 testing.
