Two local teachers receive Prime Minister’s Award

By Erin Anderson

Some federal recognition for a pair of teachers in Kitchener.

Jessica Neilson and Jennifer Schaefer of Groh Public School are recipients of the Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence.

A post on the government's website said, “This teaching team builds confident, digitally literate global citizens. Their students Skype with children in Yellowknife, ship a teapot to Singapore, visit seniors, fundraise for charity and collaborate with a university.”

The news was announced on World Teachers' Day, and a total of 71 Canadian educators were honoured.

Nominations are now being accepted for next year's awards.
