Region surpasses 1,600 COVID-19 cases in six months

Region of Waterloo Public Health has confirmed seven more cases of the coronavirus from Sunday.
Saturday's tally was also revised, adding eight more cases, meaning there were 26 in total on that day.
The majority of the new cases are due to community transmission.
There have been 1,607 cases since March.
Here are some other updates from the region's dashboard on Monday:
- 126 active cases, but no one is currently being treated for COVID-19 in a local hospital
- 1,361 resolved cases (85 per cent)
- 120 local deaths have been linked to the virus. No additional deaths have been reported since August 21
- 81,666 tests have been done (numbers will be updated again on Tuesday)
Meantime, a new outbreak has been declared at an unnamed hospitality workplace, where there are two cases, meaning there are currently seven outbreaks in the region.
There have also been three cases in schools, with Riverside Public School in Elmira being the latest, as a student has tested positive.
Below is the provincial COVID-19 breakdown for Monday:
- 47,274 total cases (425 new)
- 65 patients are currently hospitalized with the virus
- 41,146 resolved cases (87 per cent)
- 3.58 million tests have been done
- 2,829 deaths (two new)
