By Ariel Deutschmann

The former executive director of the Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest, Larry Blundell, has passed away.

According to a news release from the organization, Blundell had worked with the festival for over 45 years and served as executive director for 15 years.

The release says Blundell passed away on Friday night.

Current K-W Oktoberfest Executive Director, Alfred Lowrick, says Blundell was a 'tireless advocate for the tourism and festival industry' as he was also a previous President of Festivals and Events Ontario.

Besides his involvement in both organizations, Blundell was also a 'proud leader of the Preston Scout House Band' which participated in the annual Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Blundell is being called an 'icon' among K-W Oktoberfest volunteers and was well-admired and respected across the community.

The organization says their hearts go out to the entire Blundell family during this time.
