New Hamburg Mennonite quilt auction going virtual

While COVID-19 forced this year's New Hamburg Mennonite Relief Sale (NHMRS) to cancel festivities in its regular format, you'll still be able to get your hands on some quilts.
The organizing committee says their annual quilt auction is going virtual this Thursday at 10:00 a.m.
They say the public can bid on a special collection of 100 quilts curated by the NHMRS quilt committee, during an event dubbed “Spring into Auction: 100 Quilts for 100 Years of MCC.”
“It was really difficult to choose only 100 quilts,” said quilt committee chair, Louise Miller in a release.
“The quilts are so beautiful and each one tells a story, but after several hours, the members of the NHMRS quilt committee were able to narrow down the original 181 quilts to 100 for the online sale. We looked for a variety of colours, sizes and types.”
The other 81 quilts will be sold through “a variety of sale channels” and all funds will go to the Mennonite Central Committee.

Meantime, a one-day physical sale will commence on October 17.
“We haven't forgotten about the physical sale,” said NHMRS organizing committee chair John Reimer. “We still want everyone to get their tea balls and spring rolls.”
