Cambridge ‘warrior’ Amelia Harris given weeks to live

By Christine Clark

A tragic turn of events for a Cambridge girl suffering with pulmonary hypertension, a rare disease causing high blood pressure in the lungs.

The update coming from Amelia's Aunt Niki on the family's GoFundMe page says the 11-year-old's heart and liver are being destroyed by disease.

She goes on to say, Amelia now has a blood disorder that has doctors saying she would not survive any type of surgery.

“(Pulmonary hypertension) has caused Amelia to acquire Von Willebrand syndrome (a blood disorder which has left Amelia anemic and hemophilic). All transplant surgeons concluded that it would be medically irresponsible to attempt any anesthesia with Amelia. They all agreed that Amelia would not survive any type of surgery with no way to stop her from bleeding out.”

The family is now working with a Palliative After Care Team to try and keep the Cambridge girl pain free, and hopefully bring her home.

Ameila's aunt says they aren't going down without a fight and are still asking for prayers.

“Amelia's medical team have measured her time left with us as being weeks. This recent news hurts to the core. It is an indescribable pain. Amelia has been a warrior her entire life. We aren't going down without a Phight and still praying for a Miracle. Please continue to pray for Amelia! Please, just pray!”
