By Ben Eppel

For those who lived in Waterloo Region without air conditioning, July 5, 2019 was a memorable day.

That was the hottest day of 2019 according to the University of Waterloo Weather Station, reaching a high of 33.2 with a humidex of 43.4 degrees Celsius.

The coldest-feeling day of the year was January 31, with a temperature feeling like -39.1 with the wind chill.

Technically, the coldest day was February 28, with a temperature of -26.7 without the wind chill.

The first half of 2019 was cold and wet, followed by a dry and warm second half.

Five out of six months of the second half of the year were above average, the exception being November, which was the coldest November we've seen in 25 years.

Of note, UW says the beginning of October featured temperatures near 30 degrees, something that has only happened in October three times in the last 100 years.
