Movember K-W returns for its tenth year

By Phi Doan

November has over the years, become a rallying cry for men's health, inspiring many to adopt facial hair for the month and begin a conversation.

Movember started in 2003 down under, by two Aussies who joked about bringing moustaches back into trend. They found 30 guys willing to take the pledge and it was eventually registered as charity the following year.

What originally began as an awareness campaign for men's prostate cancer quickly spread to other areas of men's health.

“They've taken on several other initiatives. They have reached out and fund men's mental health, suicide awareness charities, and they do a lot of preventative awareness through the Movember Move Campaign as well,” says Lisa McDonald, Co-chair, Movember K-W.

The movement has since gone to inspire over five million Mo Bros and Mo Sistas to take the pledge.

Locally, Movember K-W has reached its tenth year milestone of its campaign. McDonald says they have a number of events happening throughout the month to raise money for men's health.
