Kitchener residents can now check out the renovation results of the new and improved Upper Canada Park.

The new Upper Canada Park design is part of a 2015 master plan created by the City of Kitchener to help improve infrastructure, park space efficiency and pedestrian connections between commercial and recreational spaces.

Some of these changes include a relocation of the playground and new pathways throughout the park.

The park's five baseball diamonds have also been redone, including one diamond that has been sponsored by the Playball Academy.

So far, the estimated cost of all work completed on Upper Canada Park is $2.1 million.

Last weekend, Mayor Berry Vrbanovic, Councillor Christine Michaud and other community group members participated in an opening ceremony for the newly designed space.

'This reconstruction has positioned Upper Canada Park to become one of the premier sporting facilities in the city,' says Ward 4 Councillor Christine Michaud in a release.

'With its beautiful natural setting, amenities for the whole family and great pedestrian connections to shopping, restaurants and neighbouring homes, it is truly a showcase in south-west Kitchener.'

Opened in 1986, Upper Canada Park is one of 17 district parks within the city, and is the second largest public park in Kitchener.
