Kitchener man to receive Governor General’s Innovation Award

Kitchener resident Jad Saliba will be receiving the 2019 Governor General's Innovation Award this week for his work with Magnet Forensics.
Saliba is the Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Magnet Forensics, which specializes in collecting digital evidence for crimes like human trafficking, child sexual exploitation and terrorism.
Launched in 2011, Magnet Forensics helps investigators uncover evidence to convict suspects through the use of advance search techniques and artificial intelligence.
Magnet Forensics has helped decrease case times and as a result, have become the global standard in digital forensics.
Saliba was a member of the Waterloo Regional Police Service when he was diagnosed with a life-threatening illness, causing him to take a year off for treatment.
He became inspired to create his own data recovery software after returning to work as a digital forensics examiner, seeing the challenges of retrieving digital evidence firsthand.
Saliba, who was nominated by Communitech, is one of six Canadians who will be recognized at this year's award ceremony during Canadian Innovation Week.
The Governor General's Innovation Awards ceremony will take place at Rideau Hall, on Wednesday, May 29th, at 5:00pm.
