Kitchener neurologist has licence revoked over sexual assault allegations

A provincial discipline committee held a hearing in the case against a former Kitchener neurologist after allegations of sexual misconduct and assault.

Allegations levelled against Dr. Jeffrey Scott Sloka, 50, involved three females. Sloka's practice was based at Grand River Hospital.

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario has provided an uncontested statement of facts to 570 NEWS, you can read it below.

On April 30, 2019, on the basis of a Statement of Uncontested Facts and Plea of No Contest, the Discipline Committee found that Dr. Jeffrey Scott Sloka had engaged in the sexual abuse of multiple patients and has committed professional misconduct.

The Discipline Committee ordered that Dr. Sloka's certificate of registration be revoked effective immediately; that Dr. Sloka reimburse the College to support the costs of therapy for victims in the amount of $64,240; that he pay the College$6,000 for the costs of the hearing; and that he be reprimanded by the Discipline Committee. In addition, Dr. Sloka has signed an undertaking agreeing to never apply or re-apply to practise medicine in Ontario or any other jurisdiction.

Dr. Sloka waived his right to an appeal under subsection 70(1) of the Code and the Committee administered the public reprimand.

A mother read a victim statement on behalf of her daughter: “I've lost trust in my health-care providers. I am no longer able to trust any male physicians. I feel robbed of the opportunity to work with male health practitioners. I can nolonger trust that I’m being treated by a respectable professional. My personal relationships and daily life have also been impacted. I feel robbed of the simple joy of an intimate relationship, which everyone should be able to enjoy.”

A quote from CPSO prosecutor Dr. Morgana Kellythorne’s submission to the Discipline Committee yesterday: “Dr. Sloka sexually abused multiple patients during medical examinations. Patients are at their most vulnerable in the examinationroom, where they rely on doctor’s expertise and professionalism when it comes to being physically touched or directed to undress. These patients were exploited and deceived by Dr. Sloka for his own sexual purposes. They turned to him seeking help for theirmedical needs and he preyed on them.”
